LONG LIVING CAVALIERS
In spite of all the doom and gloom around at the moment in the Cavalier world about the cavalier breed, perhaps this will show that Cavaliers can and do live into old age.

What is so noticeable though, is that a good number of long-lived Cavaliers did have many long-lived descendants. Going back to the early days of Cavaliers, to try and prove this point, was Ch. Vairire Charmaine of Crisdig “Merry”, born 4.1.59, she lived to 15 years. In her pedigree background was Raoul of Ttiweh, born 7.10.51, he lived to 12 as also did the grand old gentleman of the Cavalier breed Daywell Roger, born 7.10.45.

Following on from “Merry” was her grandson Crisdic Celebration born 20.2.62, who lived to 14. From those Cavaliers in later years was Ch. Homaranne Caption born 13.6.76 who lived to 15 and his sire Aust Ch. Homerbrent Henry was 16 years of age when he died. In fact our cherished Goldie of Homerbrent, “Mags”, a Caption daughter lived to just on 15 with no sign of heart murmur. Her grand daughter “Cherry Pie” lived to 13, had had a heart problem from when she was around 3 years old and coped with it, was this because of her grandmother’s good genes and the number of long-lived pedigrees in her back ground?

Many, many of today’s long-living Cavaliers have those long-lived ancestors in their pedigree back-ground. Snow Crystal whose heart at 17 years of age had no sign of a problem had so many long-lived Cavaliers in her pedigree back-ground. Her sire was Granasil Ratzipuss who lived to over 14, in turn his sire Aust Ch. Amantra Bohemian Rhapsody was 15 and dam Camoray Camilla over 14. Snow Crystal’s dam was Alano Buttercups ‘n’ Daisies.
On individual ages of long living Cavaliers 16 have lived to 17 years

65 to 16 years
194 to 15 years
334 to 14 years
368 to 13 years
422 to 12 years

April 2005
“Tuppence” has the pride of place as being the oldest Cavalier known about here in Britain, if not in the world. She is 19 years 4 months born 28.11.1985, Blenheim colour. Her litter sister “Penny” lived to over 17. What is so interesting is that in her pedigree background was “Donna” Lochbuie Sweet Refrain, who lived to 6 weeks short of 18 years. “Heidi”, Teluara Mon Cherie D’Amour was born 16.9.83 and lived to 18 years 10 months. Next was “Sherry” born 15.11.78, she lived to 18 years and 7 months and “Cello” born 11.4.79 lived to just over 18 years of age. Hopefully the ages these wonderful Cavaliers lived to, will show that there is hope for the Cavaliers after all.
